So, the kids still don't know that Mommy and Jacob are meeting us at the airport and I have to come up with some reason to stop AT AN AIRPORT. Luckily, they trust me, I guess. I read somewhere that there is some kind of art exhibit at the Louisville airport, so I told them that I really wanted to see a great art exhibit and they didn't even blink.
I really wish I had pictures of how this went down, but I was busy driving an RV through an airport parking lot. It may not have been the best plan, but I was imagining the airport in Austin where there is always loads of parking at the back...not so much in Louisville. I pull in to the parking lane, which splits into two lanes: one for the regular parking lot and one for up close parking. However, the up close parking has one of those bars hanging down that says something like "Minimum clearance: 10ft 6in." and the regular parking lot has a gate that is padlocked shut with a sign that says "Lot full." Crap...now what? So, we just sit there looking around worried that I'm going to get rear-ended by an idiot not paying attention. I spot a shuttle driver, so I walk over there and ask for help and he was a life saver. Long story short, he helped get the gate unlocked, directed us through the parking lot (NOT easy) and found us a place to park while we walked in to
Needless to say, we were ecstatic to see them and Jacob seemed really happy to see the other three kids.
A little way down the road we stop at a White Castle for lunch on my suggestion. I've always heard so much and wanted to try it. I suggest not doing that. It wasn't terrible, but it was not good and all of us agreed we wouldn't go back. Sorry White Castle.
We are on our way to Toledo, Ohio for a visit to the zoo tomorrow. Stacey spent some time looking up the best zoos in the country while we were planning this trip and several lists had Toledo as #1, surprisingly. Since Toledo is on our route, if you can call it that, we added it to the plan.
What wasn't in the plan, was Labor Day. I had no idea it would be so difficult to find a place to stay this weekend. I think I called six parks and Stacey called a few more yesterday from Texas and they were all full. One lady told me, when I asked her for other suggestions, to "try Alaska" since they've been booked for months. Helpful lady. Anyway, Stacey found a state park about 30 miles south of Toledo that turned out really nice.
Our first stop at the state park while trying to find our spot, which was actually at a different part of the park a few miles down the road, was at an actual park. Haley was swinging really high and Jacob walked right underneath her and looked like he got body slammed to the ground. Not a good way to start his trip, but hopefully he learned something. You can almost see it coming in these pictures.
After.
Here's our campsite for the next two nights.
