Acadia National Park - Day 6, Cadillac Mountain

After breakfast and some school work, we decided to go see Cadillac Mountain this morning because there is rain in the forecast this afternoon/evening. You can drive all the way to the top and there is a relatively flat, paved half mile path that circles the top of the mountain with views of the entire area. On the way up the mountain, there's a scenic overlook with a pretty view of one of the lakes on the main island.

At the summit, there was a Native American group playing songs with people all around listening and asking questions. I'm not sure what was going on, but I think it had some educational purpose. We walked down the hill a little bit to eat our picnic lunch. Around the corner, we found the little USGS disk that marks the summit.

Cadillac Mountain is the tallest mountain on the east coast of the United States and the first place in the country to witness the sunrise from October through March. It's not much of a mountain at only 1530 ft, but the views are spectacular.

If you look closely in this picture, you can see the sand bar that connects the main island to Bar Island that we walked across our first day here.

We'll be staying here a few more days to catch up on work, but this may be the last time we get into Acadia to really sight see, so we tried to enjoy it. I can't say enough how beautiful it is here.

Adria cooked dinner tonight. We had spaghetti and sauteed asparagus and it was pretty good. They've been taking turns, so Brady's up tomorrow. I'm sure that means breakfast sausage and eggs.
