Thursday and Friday we literally did nothing. Well, not literally. I think we went to the grocery store again, which was better (slightly) because we went at 10:30 in the morning.
The remainder of the days we just worked, caught up on school work, and watched this great TV channel they get up here called Create. It has a lot of cooking, woodworking shows, and similar things and the kids (and I) love them, especially the cooking shows. We have a few favorites: Project Smoke (all about smoking and grilling meats) and A Chef's Life (about a couple who open a restaurant). Pretty good stuff.
Saturday, sadly, we left Acadia. After packing up everything, hooking up HQ, and a trip to the dump station, I took a final picture of our vacant spot. Sniff, sniff. We've had a good time here.
I spent some time this morning finding our next location. During our planning, we wanted to stop by Portland, ME, but a friend suggested on the phone the other night that we also check out Kennebunkport. It's supposed to be a cool town and he said to check out the Bush compound while there. I had a difficult time finding a place for a reasonable price near those areas...makes me worried about Boston and Washington, D.C.
I finally stumbled across Wassamki Springs campground. After arrival, I realize I think I've found an absolute gem. There is a lake with a beach area, a dance hall, a game room with a pool table, ping-pong, and arcade games, and more. All for the low, low price of $30 per night. Also, this is the first place that gave us a AAA discount (10%)!
After about a four hour drive...we're here! Here's our awesome sight...pain in the @$$ to back into though. Even the lady in the office asked the other guy, "Are you sure a 37 ft'er will fit in T15?" I got it...barely.
After a very brief Google search like, "Best places to eat in Portland," I found several restaurants that the kids wouldn't like and that were too expensive. However, I did find Slab and they specialize in pizza, so here we come. It's only about a 15 minute drive into town and it was still light out. Like we say about everything, the pizza (and beer) was incredible. Really...the kids still say it was one of the best they've ever had. It was very thick, but with a light and airy dough and crust. Very good.
I think I must be a sucker, but the kids ask me for dessert not just every day, but after almost every meal. Adria has asked for dessert after breakfast. I bet I've gained ten pounds in the last three weeks. We need to hike more. The RV park had a marshmallow roast around a big campfire in the picnic area, so we stopped to buy graham crackers and chocolate bars. We already had marshmallows. Turns out, the park provided all of that and the wooden skewers.
We were the only people who showed up at the campfire other than employees. One of them, Robin, and I talked for what seemed like an hour and she was tremendously nice and helpful. I really enjoyed it. She told us everywhere we should go tomorrow and even explained the route I should take. Super nice. She asked for the web address of this blog, so if you are reading this Robin, leave a comment and thanks for being so helpful and friendly!
There is a Sunday breakfast tomorrow morning here at the park for $7 that we're looking forward to.
Once again a great post to keep us informed about everything you all are doing. Sounds, like you found a really good campground too. Jealous of the weather their already.
